Derwent Distillery

Derwent Distillery is nestled on the banks of Southern Tasmania’s Derwent River, 25 minutes North of Hobart.

It is owned and operated by Emma and Robbie Gilligan, who together produce small batches Derwent Distillery Single Malt Whisky, Last Sanctuary Gin and liqueurs that showcase Tasmanian-grown botanicals, some even foraged from their distillery site.

Truly delicious Whisky! We were lucky enough to visit at the time Robbie was doing an intricate part of his distilling and he kindly walked us through the process. He is clearly passionate about distilling which creates delicious whisky which is streets ahead of the whiskies we tasted at other larger distilleries. They also have sweet llamas on their farm which we got to feed 🦙

Amazing and knowledgeable service! They have Alpacas and as a bonus they let us feed them. Such a great experience! Must go and support this local distillery!

Now, up front - I have not yet visited this distillery but I have met Robbie & Emma, ever so briefly at another venue, where I was impressed by his pitch & a couple of his products, all of which I recommend.
A return trip is being planned & further feedback to come 👍🥃
