Belgrove Distillery

The first Rye Distillery in Australia, and one of very few Whisky distilleries in the world that grows all its own grain, malts, ferments, distills and barrel ages on site.

Belgrove Distillery, nestled in the picturesque landscape of Tasmania, stands as a truly unique and sustainable whisky distillery unlike any other. What sets Belgrove apart is its commitment to a closed-loop, environmentally conscious production process. The distillery is one of the few establishments globally that grows all its own grain, malts, ferments, distills, and barrel ages on site, ensuring unparalleled quality and flavour.

Belgrove takes immense pride in its green approach to whisky production, utilizing a variety of sustainable practices that showcase the brand's dedication to the environment. They power their operations using biofuel, biodiesel, and recycled waste cooking oil, while also recycling waste water for irrigation and reusing yeast to minimize their ecological footprint.

The distillery's popular 100% rye whisky is made from home-grown ryecorn and distilled in a copper pot still, built from scratch by the distillery's founder. This level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident in every bottle of Belgrove whisky, which captures the essence of Tasmania's rich, fertile landscape.

In our carefully curated collection of Belgrove whiskies, you'll find their highly sought-after Holy Shit Rye Whisky, which gained fame after being featured on Gordon Ramsay's TV show, Uncharted. Each batch of this smoky rye whisky is crafted with the utmost care, with the malted rye grain smoked by burning dried sheep dung. This unique approach to smoking the grain results in a whisky with delicate phenol notes, honey sweetness, and a fruity nose.

As you explore our selection of Belgrove's remarkable whiskies, you'll be captivated not only by their exceptional taste and quality but also by the commitment to eco-friendly practices that set this distillery apart from the rest. Indulge in the rich flavours of Tasmanian whisky and experience the harmonious blend of sustainability, craftsmanship, and tradition that Belgrove Distillery has to offer.

Peter went above and beyond to show us around his distillery, explaining the entire process of how he makes his whisky. We were very impressed by his knowledge and creativity and learnt so much about whisky and how to create sustainably. We also got to try many of his whiskies and also took home a bottle for ourselves. Thank you Peter for such a great experience!

This was probably the most informative tour I’ve ever experienced. I loved Belgrove’s commitment to keeping things local, sustainable, and focused on producing exceptional whiskey. Their unique approach and passion for quality truly stood out.

Belgrove doesn’t just craft award-winning whiskey—they have world-class employees who genuinely love what they do.

How did I discover this gem? The Pooseum! They even have a sheep-poo whiskey. Go check it out and see for yourself!

We absolutely loved visiting Belgrove Distillery. Peter gave us an extensive tour and tasting. I can honestly say that the whiskeys we tried were world class. We tried all the smokey varieties and OMG, what an experience. I could taste a bushfire all day and night. So tasty. If you like whiskies/Bourbon this place is an absolute treasure.
